Find the boiler problem
before it closes the school.

Many schools have no budget for their own maintenance team. ThreadIO keeps watch on your boilers and heating equipment remotely, so warning signs can reach the right people while there is still time to act.

The morning it goes wrong

Staff arrive.
The building is cold.

A boiler has failed overnight, and nobody knew until administrators walked in. With no maintenance team on hand, the morning turns into phone calls and waiting.

Then comes the decision no one wants to make: close the school. Families scramble for care, teachers lose the day, and a problem that may have been building for weeks becomes an emergency.

Recent public reports

When the heat fails,
the school closes.

New York’s property maintenance code sets a 65°F minimum for occupied school spaces. When a building cannot reach it, opening may not be an option.

Albany, NY · November 2025

An overnight leak shut down the heat.

Giffen Memorial Elementary closed for the day. The district said crews were working on the problem but could not fix it in time for school.

Three school days of remote learning.

Farnsworth Middle School closed and moved online from April 20 to 22 because of unresolved boiler issues. Teachers, families, sports, and transportation all had to adjust.

Closed a second straight day.

Broken pipes took the district’s heating system down. As repairs continued, the superintendent said the district was preparing for remote learning.

Heating problems can build quietly until the morning they force a closure. ThreadIO is designed to surface warning signs earlier, so schools have more time to act.

How ThreadIO helps

Get ahead of the failure,
not just the repair.

An alarm tells you something has already gone wrong. ThreadIO follows how your equipment behaves over time, so a change can get attention before anyone is standing in a cold hallway.

  1. Connect your equipment.

We review your boilers, controls, and sensors, then connect supported signals by a wired or cellular link.

  2. Build the operating history.

Record temperatures, run time, and cycles, including when the building is empty and no one is there to notice.

  3. Surface what changed.

Analytics help identify repeated cycling, long run times, and unexpected temperature relationships worth investigating.

  4. Send help when it is needed.

The right person gets the context to inspect the cause and plan the work, ideally before it becomes a closure.

When the maintenance budget is thin

No full-time team?
One person? That can work.

Some schools have never had a dedicated maintenance team. Others have lost staff to budget cuts. Either way, no one can stand in every boiler room, every night.

ThreadIO gives the people you do have a remote view of your equipment. Crews go out when the data shows a need, with context on what changed, rather than arriving to start the diagnosis from scratch.

Who responds is agreed before you connect: your staff, your current contractor, or field service quoted as part of your deployment.

Protecting a major purchase

New boiler.
Same hidden problem?

Replacing a boiler is a major expense, and the equipment is expected to last 25 to 30 years. But a replacement fixes the boiler, not necessarily the system around it. If the real issue is in the piping, pressure, or setup, the new equipment can be exposed to the same conditions.

Operating data can show those conditions. At Shaker Place in Albany, which is not a school, monitoring pointed to three to four boiler cycles per hot-water call. Investigation then identified piping conditions and about 50 psi of system pressure against 30 psi valve ratings.

Those are findings and corrective opportunities, not verified savings.

Planning the budget

A monthly cost
you can plan around.

Licensing runs from $29 to $99 per monitored device per month. For example, 3 monitored devices on the Predict tier would be $177 per month. Your quote confirms which equipment counts as a device.

Hardware, installation, commissioning, integrations, and field service are quoted separately. Use the calculator to compare those costs with a repair or replacement at your school.

Common questions

What schools ask first.

Do we need a maintenance team to use ThreadIO?

You do not need a full-time team on site. You do need someone responsible for acting on findings, such as a staff member, your current contractor, or field service quoted with your deployment. Those responsibilities are agreed during scoping.

Can ThreadIO guarantee our school will never close because of a heating failure?

No. Not every failure can be predicted or prevented, and ThreadIO does not repair equipment. It is designed to surface abnormal behavior earlier, so your team has a better chance to investigate and plan the work before a failure forces a closure.

We just replaced a boiler. Is monitoring still useful?

It can be. New equipment can still be affected by piping, pressure, or setup conditions elsewhere in the system. Operating history can help a qualified service professional investigate those conditions.

We already have a building management system. Is this different?

An alarm identifies a condition at a point in time. ThreadIO adds remote visibility, historical trends, and analysis, and it can share that context with your service provider. Your existing controls are reviewed during scoping.

What does it cost a school?

Licensing is per monitored device per month: Monitor is $29, Predict is $59, and Operate is $99. Hardware, installation, commissioning, integrations, and field service are quoted separately. View pricing and estimate your license.

Will it work with our equipment and district IT rules?

A site evaluation confirms your equipment, available signals, and any additional sensors. It also covers wired or cellular connection options and your IT and security requirements.
